What Safety Equipment Do I Need?

Based on thousands of miles, decades of offshore passages, and collaboration with the U.S. Sailing Association, we have developed the Cruising Rally Association Safety Equipment List. Prior to the start of each event, our inspectors will work with you to ensure that your equipment is on board and that everyone knows how it works and where it is stowed. In addition, the inspectors will add an extra pair of eyes to help you evaluate the readiness of your boat to avoid the most common problems offshore. Any Questions, Ask our Chief Safety Inspector.

The inspectors are experienced offshore sailors who act very professionally and take their volunteer jobs seriously. If things weren't right, they would come back when you made it right. Each vessel must have an SSB radio, EPIRB and carry a satellite positioning transponder that the organizers provide. The inspectors check that all life lines and safety jack lines are installed and everyone has a harness with tether. These guys are serious.
