Boat Insurance

Obtaining affordable boat insurance that covers your offshore and cruising needs requires careful pre-planning.  We suggest you begin your search for appropriate insurance coverage 3-6 months prior to going offshore.

The Caribbean 1500 is scheduled to leave during the first week of November because many insurance companies will not cover offshore boats during hurricane season (June 1- November 1). By the same token, many policies will require you to be below or above a speciic lattitude by June 1.

Some companies will require a survey (in and out of the water).  They may also require that you correct any deficiencies cited in the survey prior to issuing you a policy.

You will likely be asked to submit your sailing resume along with that of your crew.

Should you wish to participate in the Caribbean 1500 Racing Classes, you will want to select a policy that provides coverage for "timed events."
