Caribbean 1500 Plans for 2010

Promise Bigger, Better Event

More Fun, Too!

The Caribbean 1500 Rally is the largest and longest-running offshore cruising event in The Americas. Join Us!  You'll discover the adventure, camaraderie, and competition that will bring you back year after year to make new friendships and renew old ones.

Building on the success of the Caribbean 1500 over two decades, we are adding a second destination alternative to the event.  All Ralliers will begin the event in Hampton VA.  One destination is the traditional Caribbean 1500 endpoint in the British Virgin Islands; the second is in The Bahamas. Over 1500 boats with 6000 ralliers aboard have met the challenge of the Caribbean 1500 and its companion events during our 20 year history. That's more than two million rally miles! Tens of thousands of armchair sailors from over 50 countries come to the web site each year to watch the satellite-tracked event in progress.

The diverse fleet in this year's rally will include ralliers from all over the United States and Canada, along with sailors from Europe and Asia. Crews come in all shapes and sizes --- from double-handing couples to families with children to serious and not-so-serious racing contingents. There will be new boats and old boats, racing sleds and full-keeled cruisers, monohulls and catamarans.

You will meet veteran ralliers, world cruisers, respected racers, and first-time passage-makers --- all gathering for the adventure, camaraderie, and competition of the Caribbean 1500.

“Our family-based crew - with additional support from Ian McLean and Dwight Hawkins - worked tirelessly to keep the boat moving fast and on course.  While we sailed on port tack the entire journey, there were many sail changes, regular trimming, and much hand steering as we worked our way down the rhumb line in following seas.

“There are some fabulous sailors and terrific boats in the rally and it is a great honour for us to have achieved this overall result.”
