Cruising Rally AssociationWhen Steve Black introduced offshore sailing rallies to the North American sailing world in 1990, he started a tradition. That tradition is the Caribbean 1500 ... now completing its second full decade ... and named the "Top Offshore Event" by Blue Water Sailing Magazine. Steve has managed sponsored sailing events for over 25 years, first as Executive Director of U.S. Sailing and now as founder and president of the Cruising Rally Association. He plans each event with a single-minded focus on a handful of key objectives, striving to:

"Sailing is such an intuitive sport," says Steve Black (upper left), "Almost always what you think is the right course of action is the right course of action. Most sailors make good decisions. They are quick to learn. Today, there are many agencies like OSHA, the FDA, and the EPA making decisions for us. Each year we have fewer chances to make decisions for ourselves. Offshore sailing is the last frontier open to regular people and our best opportunity to experience independence today."
